| The Department of Life Sciences at the University of Calicut was established in February 1978, towards the end of the fifth plan period, with support from the University Grants Commission (UGC). It originated from a proposal to promote integrated teaching and research in Physiology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology, an interdisciplinary approach strongly recommended by a UGC review committee that has since proven highly effective. |
